Augusta Pickle Gets a New Sister
(Third Version – Picture Book Layout Draft)
Page 1–2
Augusta Pickle was five years old, and she had big plans.
She was about to become a big sister!
Her mom said the baby would be here soon, but Augusta thought “soon” was taking forever. So she decided to help.

She tiptoed into the nursery. The crib looked plain. The walls looked plain.
Plain was boring. Babies deserved sparkle.

Augusta opened the craft box. There was glitter. There was glue. There were feathers.
Perfect!
“Just a touch,” she whispered, but glitter never listens.
Soon it was on the rug, the walls, the crib, and Beau the dog.

When Mom came home, she froze in the doorway.
“Augusta Pickle!”
Augusta smiled proudly. “I made the room special for the baby!”
Mom blinked. “It’s… definitely special.”

Just then, Beau shook, sending a fresh cloud of glitter into the air.
The whole room shimmered.
Even Mom’s hair sparkled.
“Too special?” Augusta asked.
Mom tried not to laugh. “Maybe a little.”

That’s when Augusta knew she might have overdone it.
She clapped her hands to her cheeks and whispered,
“Augusta, you’re in a pickle now!”

Mom laughed, and Beau wagged his glittery tail. Together they cleaned the room—
sort of. (Everyone knows glitter never really leaves.)

Later that night, Mom tucked Augusta in.
“You know,” she said softly, “the best sparkle in this house is you.”
Augusta smiled. “Even if I make a mess sometimes?”
“Especially then.”

A soft cry came from the nursery.
Mom whispered, “She’s here.”
Augusta’s eyes went wide. “Already?”
Mom nodded. “Come meet your sister.”
The baby’s tiny feet glittered faintly.
Augusta gasped. “She sparkles too!”
Mom smiled. “I wonder where she got that from.”
